ROWASOL LD for frosted glass effect New light diffusing additive concentrates from for all plastics

Light scattering additives scatter the light passing through the plastic. This makes the products appear opaque or “milky”, resulting in a more even light distribution and reduced glare. These additives are ideal for lighting systems, displays, optical devices and applications such as privacy or sun protection with a frosted glass effect.

In order to achieve a uniform appearance of the end product, ready-made compounds are usually used in which the additive is optimally distributed. The processor usually has to make do with a product from a standard portfolio, as application-specific compounds or compounds tailored to customer requirements in small quantities are associated with high set-up costs for the compounder, as the compounding lines have to be perfectly cleaned for each campaign. This is because any contamination becomes visible in the subsequent component and leads to rejects. Suppliers are also faced with the problem of high set-up costs. ROWASOL has now recognized this fact and developed an initial portfolio under the name ROWASOL LD for the plastic types PET, PC, PMMA and PS. The major advantage in the production of liquid additive preparations is that the relatively simple production equipment is cleaned extremely meticulously as it is also used for the production of liquid colors and cross-contamination must be avoided at all costs.

For this reason, the ROWASOL LD types do not require any higher set-up costs “out of the box”, so that even customer-specific small quantities from 5 kg can be produced economically. Another major advantage - as is also known from the liquid colors - is the very good distribution during further processing of the concentrates, so that even small quantities in the range of 0.5 % are sufficient to achieve an attractive milk glass effect. It is also very easy to add dyes or pigments to the dispersion, e.g. to achieve a slight tint or a strong coloration.
